Nitrifying beneficial pond bacteria is a critical component to all biological pond filters. Without nitrifying beneficial pond bacteria, a biological filter is not “biological”. A biological filter is essential for maintaining a healthy ecosystem to support fish and other aquatic life. Fish and aquatic life release ammonia into the water that is toxic to the fish. Without beneficial bacteria inside a biological fish pond filter, the water will become unhealthy for your koi and pond fish.
The nitrification cycle is the conversion of ammonia to nitrite, and then nitrite to nitrate with specific bacteria. Nitrification Cycle™ Nitrifying Pond Bacteria contains those specific bacteria critical for the nitrification cycle in biological fish pond filters.
HydroClear™ Nitrification Cycle™ beneficial pond bacteria reduces ammonia, fish waste, organic plant material, sludge, and excess nutrients in your pond. High concentration for optimum results.
The nitrogen cycle is the biochemical cycle by which nitrogen is converted into multiple chemical forms as it circulates through aquatic ecosystems. The conversion of ammonia to nitrite, and nitrite to nitrogen is carried out through the biological filters' process.
Biofilter Starter and Maintenance
Nitrification Cycle is a proprietary blend of highly concentrated bacteria strains Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter, and Nitrospira that jump starts all types of biofilters. Nitrification Cycle is the process of converting toxic ammonia into nitrite, then converts nitrite into nitrate. Nitrate is then removed from the water as nitrogen.
Nitrification Cycle contains cold water bacteria species that perform in cold water as low as 35°. Start out with the startup dosage, then as ammonia levels reach zero, lower the dosage to maintenance levels. Use weekly until water ammonia is at zero, then use bi-weekly to maintain a healthy biofilter that performs at its peak.
Nitrification Cycle is can be used in all types of biofilters for all types of ponds and aquariums. Use every spring season to jump start your biofilter.

High quality products with exceptional customer support.
I have been using Russell Watergarden’s beneficial bacteria for years during the Spring opening of the pond then once or twice a month during the Summer. It helps keep my pond clean and clear.
Product does a great job breaking down leaves and fir needles and helps reduce sludge. Regular weekly use adding tablets has substantially reduced the need for manual sludge cleanup.
I’ve been using the Summer Maintenance Beneficial Bacteria for several months now. It helps keep my pond especially clear. I add small amounts to my moving bed filter throughout the month.
I use this weekly all Winter to help keep my water parameters stable and the water very clear. This video was taken through the feed window of my Winter cover. The pond is 5 1/2 feet deep at this spot.
I’ve never used the granular bacteria before. Although my pond is usually clear, after using this product for a week, the water is extremely clear, fines gone. The video shows our koi at different levels from near the surface to nearly six feet deep.
Since our pondless stream is a closed system (I do add some water to the system each week) string algae can start showing up on the rocks especially when the weather gets warm. Occasionally, in order to keep everything clean and looking natural, I will turn off the pump for a few minutes and sprinkle some Hydro Viscense on the stream bed and let it work for a short time. When I start the flow again the stream will be clean and natural again. It’s a great product.
Our pond stays running year round. But, the water temperature sometimes drops below 45f. We use the cold weather bacteria blocks to bolster the water quality. This video is in Ontario, Canada a week before Christmas and the water parameters are so good the koi are even getting a small meal.
I have been a loyal customer of Russell Wartergardens for decades, starting prior to their moving to Arizona. The pond is healthy, the koi are healthy, and I have always bee satisfied with their great customer service, their products, the pricing and the quick service.
worked as advertised. I used the entire jar as i have a 50ft long 5ft wide pondless waterfall. All the drops are clean and very happy. No plants or fish to worry about. Dog drinks from the waterfall . Enjoy the video. I built this 17 years ago and just changed the pump and changed the spillway.
I have been a customer of Russell Watergardens for over 20 years.
Their Fall-Winter maintenance tablets keep my pond and waterfall clean throughout our longer Pacific NW winters.
I have been a customer of Russell Watergardens for over 20 years. The Summer Maintenance has been a staple of my pond' health.
My Koi very much appreciate their clean environment.
We have been working with Russell Watergardens and using Hydro Vescense for 20 years. and it is the best product for controlling algae and is safe for fish and aquatic life. They are very knowledgeable and helpful in keeping your pond healthy and looking it's best.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your review and your comments! HydroFloc Water Clarifier causes fine particulates to clump together for collection in a skimmer or other pre-filter. It is not a pond or rock cleaner. If you have cloudy water, you should see the water clear up 24-48 hours after using HydroFloc.
If you need to remove unwanted build up from the water feature rocks, I recommend using Hydro Vescense Effervescent Cleaner. (https://russellwatergardens.com/products/hydro-vescense) After treating with Hydro Vescence, use HydroFloc to bind the tiny particulates that will be created. Please don't hesitate to get it touch if we can help any further.
I bought the product in anticipation of using it when I start the waterfall up again. That hasn't happened yet so I have no opinion of the product purchased. I have hopes but no actual experience with the product.
Cleans really well have only used one time the other products recommended by Russel watergardens has kept my 30 foot river, waterfall and bubbling rocks perfectly clean and clear

Thank you for your recent review! We appreciate your comments, and would like to take the opportunity to respond. I see that the product was delivered to you just over 2 weeks ago. Beneficial bacteria can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months to colonize and become fully established and start working effectively. Results also vary with water temperature and water chemistry.
I'd love to know how frequently you applied the product and what amount you used, so I can further help troubleshoot. You are welcome to send us photos of your pond as well if you think that would be helpful.
If you continue to use as directed and still are not satisfied, we will be happy to offer you a refund for the product. Our goal is that you will become a happy customer - thank you for the opportunity.
Best flocculant I’ve used. Really clears out my pond.

Many thanks to you, Mr. V. for troubleshooting the performance of Summer Pond Maintenance with me. We discovered that with the circulating pump running only about 15% of the time, and an undersized aeration system, the bacteria was not receiving enough oxygen to thrive. Also, the filtration system was only operating about 15% of the time. Once you implement our solutions, we expect your pond to clear up as well as the overall pond health to improve. Thank you for being a loyal customer since 2016! We appreciate you!
