Aeration is extremely important. A healthy ecosystem requires a constant supply of oxygen. The RWK-4 linear pond air pump provides 1.41 cubic feet of oxygen per minute to the water. This increases and maintains higher levels of dissolved oxygen in the water. Also, the rising air bubbles increase water circulation.
During warmer months, warmer pond water contains less dissolved oxygen than colder water. Higher levels of oxygen dissolved in your pond increases the metabolism rate of the beneficial bacteria living in your biological pond filter.

The churning bubbles prevent the pond from completely freezing over. Keeping a hole open in the pond is critical for the health of your fish. An open hole in the ice allows for potentially harmful gasses to escape the water.
